Late afternoon beach walks and golden glowing sunsets. How beautiful it is to let that light sink in. I have re-created a magical sunset viewed from the back of the sand dunes at Semaphore South Australia.

Sunbursts
On early morning walks I sometimes stop to admire this spectacular tree bursting with globes of orange flowers….turns out its Eucalyptus phoenicea and is usually found in Northern Australia. Such a stunner, I had to paint it!

Golden Beauties, Acrylic on Canvas, 91 x 45.5cm

Golden Beauties
Sitting in the studio, looking out into the backyard, wondering what to paint next I noticed a golden torch helicona flower waving to me at the open window. Botanical name is Heliconia psittacorum x spathocircinata, commonly known as ‘Golden Torch’. As I’ve found, if you allow them to run rampant they will happily spread out into the garden and start peaking into the windows.

Messy Bouquet – Australian natives, mixed with peony blooms
There’s a long story to explain this painting…but the short version is; I was given an assignment to paint a ‘messy bouquet’ in a dream – Yes seriously! Woke up thinking: A what!? It became a challenge and bit of research on the subject revealed: a messy bouquet was an actual thing!
– Grateful thanks for the inspiration, Chantel Lauren, designer of the beautiful Mae Gown and to Tyler Rye for his stunning photos.
